When the ancient Chinese prophet said that the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step, I am sure he was not talking about the Guatemalan adoption process. This journey is an intricate labyrinth of ladders ahead, chutes back down, mysterious "time outs" and rules of engagement than really seem to be made up as they go.
I got a case update today: a mixture of good & confusing news. Good
news - I was kicked out of PGN (finally - after 6 months and 3 monthsof that in investigation!!!). The confusing news: they didn't kick me out for the 2 problems I know I have (birth certificate typo that caused the investigation & lack of pre-approval paperwork). No, instead they kicked me out because I don't have Lilly's current medical write up attached to the file. Well...no $hit Sherlock...the file has been locked up in PGN for 6 months so how could I get them a current medical?!?!?!?!?!?!? A lot of this process seems silly to me...but that one is just so ridiculous I can't comprehend it.

A lot of this process seems silly to me...but that one is just so ridiculous I can't comprehend it. But- initially I thought...well, no problem, we get the new medical & then submit the other two things at the same time. And, if teh birth certificate isn't fixed yet we just wait on that and re-submit all at once. But, then my lovely agency said that was really not my call and that I needed to trust my lawyer (the one who has had 4 months to fix teh bc and hasn't done it). Well, lets just say that didn't sit well with me, and I quickly shared that with them. So...not totally sure where we stand. Still don't know when they expect the bc to be fixed. So....while I have been waiting for months to finally get kicked out, the day has come and it is not what I had hoped for.
On a more cheery note...I did get pictures last week from her December doctor's appointment. But, that is when she was sick and you can see how pitiful she looks! SO, that just tore at my heart and
even though I said I wasn't going to call her again, I just had to call to be sure she was feeling better. So, Saturday I called the foster family. And, my Spanish is really not up to a phone call...I do better with body language and gesturing to help me out. But, I soldiered through it. The news: She is totally recovered and feeling fine. Lilly has 2 teeth and is now sitting up on her own. She is eating chicken, potatoes, apple juice & some food I didn't recognize. I asked where the teeth were...and Amarillis answered...and I still have no idea. I have it narrowed down to three possible translations...they are either next to each other, on top of each other or not next to each other...which doesn't really help me get the picture! I was trying to ask if she was crawling, but couldn't find the word for crawl (still haven't found it). So...I tried to describe it...and then realized that I had asked if Lilly was walking without feet. Hmmm...not quite what I was going for. But, Amarillis was ever patient with me, though I did hear her laughing at some things I said and repeating for the benefot of Michelle & her friend who were there. They held the phone up so I could hear Lilly playing, and all of a sudden I hear this male voice in an American accent saying, "Say Hi." No clue...but my guess is he is the Mormom missionary boy from the picture (who I am guessing is the daughter's boyfriend...but that is admittedly reading a lot into things). Anyway, despite my efforts for them to put the mysterious American on the phone, they didn't. I bet he knows the word for crawl!So...I continue to wait. I continue to get ready. And I continue to miss her. Please pray for a fast turn around on the birth certificate and a quick re-entry to PGN with a complete file for a quick OUT.
Thanks for joining us on this mixed up journey!!!!
